Job Description

Main Responsibilities The individual will hold the responsibility for SSGs Defence Nuclear Organisation (DNO) and MoD Southwest teams and will be a senior figure offering support to develop SSGs relationships and operations. The successful applicant will join the Operations Managers team and will be expected to engage with senior customers, raising SSGs profile and becoming a visible senior leader within the DNO and across the MoD in the South West. Reporting directly to Head SSG the post holder will become a member of SSGs Higher Management Group and will be encouraged to participate fully in the Executive Committee and its 2025 Programme Board. They will work alongside the existing Operations Managers to run SSGs Operational structure and associated resources in order to balance existing client priorities and future opportunities against delivery capacity. They will work together to ensure duties are covered during absences. To provide Technical and Financial oversight of all contractual delivery commitments including Capital works Projects and Maintenance Contracts. Authorisation of all Technical/Financial Initial Gate and Main Gate applications within delegation boundaries Be responsible for the future development of the respective teams specifically in understanding and interpreting the following: Industry Security Systems future development Cabinet Office & Home Office policy Centre For The Protection Of National Infrastructure policy MOD policies and standards Project management standards, CDM (Construction, Design & Management) and the New Engineering Contract (NEC) Working knowledge of British, European and Government Standards relating to security together with knowledge of QA and H&S policies. Operations Team The individual will sit on the Operations Board with fellow Operations Managers to manage technical oversight of all Regional Team Leaders both UK and Overseas To liaise with SSG Project Managers in the authorisation process of new projects in respect of all financial, technical and resource implications to the business Will be called upon to liaise directly with customers senior management levels to understand and interpret their requirements from a financial and technical perspective To understand the business Key Performance Indicators (KPI) and to challenge SSG Operational Team Leaders performance in relation to these KPIs (Maintenance turnaround times and Projects on-time-in-full delivery) To sit on both H&S and QA boards, providing an Operational perspective both in relation to Health and Safety delivery policies and Quality Assurance policies and procedures. Financial Reviews, to work in close co-operation with SSGs finance department: The post holder will work with SSG Finance and Commercial leads to lead quarterly finance and performance reviews and become jointly accountable for SSGs overall delivery. Business Continuity and Succession Planning To have a technical input into the future product development of SSGs next in-house Security products Business Development Reviewing and offering support to develop the following: Future business development. Future structures and capabilities. SSGs contribution to DSR as MoDs technical and physical Technical Authority. SSG Vision30 key line of activity; People, Technology and Relationships. SSGs HR offer of Training and Education To be responsible for advising future development of: Industry Security Systems future development National Protective Security Authority (NPSA) policy MOD Policies and standards Project Management standards, CDM (Construction, Design & Management) and the New Engineering Contract (NEC) Leadership & Management Provide leadership for the team/function with minimal supervision and direction, developing and supporting the team, enabling them to deliver departmental goals Manage own workload to contribute to SSG outputs Contribute to a positive, collaborative and proactive working environment Promote strong working relationships within the Operations Management team and with other teams across DIO and MoD Promote strong working relationships with senior levels of management within the OGD, DNO & MoD estate Provide leadership for stakeholder management and analysis activities for team/function Leading engagement with important and influential internal and external stakeholders and negotiating key outcomes in support of SSG operational delivery and future development Operations Board: The individual will co-chair the Ops Board with fellow Operations Managers to lead oversight of all Regional Team Leaders both UK and Overseas. QA and H&S: To sit on both H&S and QA boards and provide an Operational perspective both in relation to Health and Safety delivery policies and Quality Assurance policies and procedures. They will also undertake Financial forecasting and accountability down to AP reporting schedules. Business Continuity and Succession Planning : To undertake the Operational lead in relation to business continuity planning both in relation to resource planning and cross functional abilities. Product Development: To have a Technical input into the future development of SSGs next in-house Security products. Business Development: To continually assess both the MoD and OGD environments in order to promote SSGs position, to encourage MOD and cross governmental functionality and enable future business development opportunities. Person specification Essential Skills and Experience Experience of SSG Security Systems Engineering Experience, Electrical Electronic Management within the Electronic and Physical Security Industry Management of Operational delivery teams specifically Industrial/Technical/Project Management staff Experience of dealing with both Commercial Project and Facilities Management companies Experience of delivering Technical operational functionality within Government Experience of Project Management processes (NEC3 and/or CDM) Full Driving Licence (Essential for travel to/from sites some of which are remote and not accessible by public transport. A vehicle/hire car will be provided.
