Job Description
Job Title: Surgical Technician Profession: Surgical Technician Specialty: Clinical Nurse Manager Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Evenings Hours per Shift: 8 hours Experience: Minimum 0 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, CST Must-Have: General, Ortho, GYN, URO, Trauma experience required Description: Surgical technologists work under the supervision of a surgeon to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of surgical procedures. They ensure that the operating room environment is safe and that equipment functions properly. Surgical technologists maximize patient safety during invasive and non-invasive procedures. They are experts in asepsis and sterile technique. They possess knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and instruments and technologies used in surgery. The surgical technologist prepares instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary for the surgical procedure. They understand the procedure being performed and anticipate the needs of the surgeon. Additionally, they maintain quality patient care during the procedure and ensure the sterile field is secure. Essential Functions: Prepare and anticipate instrumentation, equipment, and supplies for usage during procedures. Set up the sterile back table and Mayo stand with required instruments and supplies. Perform instrument, sharps, and sponge counts as required. Participate in procedure final verification. Assist with draping the patient and establishing the sterile field. Anticipate the needs of the surgeon by passing instruments and supplies during the procedure. Maintain the highest standard of sterile technique throughout the procedure. Prepare and pass off specimens as appropriate. Clean and prepare instruments for terminal sterilization as assigned. Assist with cleaning the operating room to facilitate turnover. Participate in debriefing and quality improvement practices. Contribute to the development of a learning environment for personnel and students. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Required: High School Diploma. Preferred: Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program. Prior training obtained through a hospital, Surgical Technology, or military program is required. Preferred: Membership to the Association of Surgical Technologists. One year of relevant experience is preferred. Preferred Certifications: Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting. Preferred Basic Life Support Instructor (BLS INSTR) - American Heart Association. Physical Demands: Pallet to Waist: Seldom up to 50 lbs. Waist to Waist: Seldom up to 50 lbs.
