Job Description
Overview The Data Center Engineering Operations (DCEO) team is seeking engineers who can deploy, operate, and maintain the facilities (electrical/mechanical systems, control/fire-fighting systems, etc.) and manage related projects at large-scale, high-density data centers. The role is Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) engineering, managing infrastructure such as diesel generators, switch gear, UPSs, PDUs, AHUs, fire detection systems and building automation systems. You will report to the Data Center Engineering Operations Facilities Manager. AWS Infrastructure Services (AIS) owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the cloud. You will join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles, collaborating with AWS teams to deliver safety, security, and operational excellence. Key responsibilities Setting and maintaining the highest standards for safety and actively promoting a world-class safety culture in all operational procedures Driving continuous improvement on infrastructure through standardization of procedures and policies, while delivering performance against agreed metrics Enabling the operations organization to deliver 100% up-time on all customer supporting infrastructure Collaborating effectively with internal and external stakeholders to deliver operational excellence for all AWS customers Ensuring preventive maintenance of site-critical facility infrastructure is planned and executed to the highest standards in accordance with AWS procedures Facility monitoring and supervision (via BMS, PMS, walkthroughs, etc.) Participation in successful delivery of build-out and retrofit of data center infrastructure Ensuring organizational capability to react and respond to any potential customer-impacting event on electrical or mechanical infrastructure Reviewing incident reports, documenting periodic trend summaries, and providing updates and recommended actions to management Drafting, updating and maintaining method statements, standard operating procedures, emergency response procedures, preventive maintenance programs, and all technical documentation pertaining to DCEO Additional duties Oversee maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures Troubleshoot facility and rack-level events Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to while performing work Work 8 hours, 5 days on and 4 days off Take daily operational readings of all mechanical and electrical equipment Management of external vendors Basic Qualifications Good verbal and written communication skills in English Apprentice/trades certified or diploma in an Electrical field and key electrical competencies (Practice & Theory) and knowledge of mechanical systems (Mechanical, HVAC systems, Controls) Driving license valid in Italy Preferred Qualifications 3 years of experience in operations and on-call support for Data Center facilities or Mission Critical Plants/Production facilities An undergraduate degree in a technical field (Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering) Project Management experience Amazon is an equal opportunities employer.
