Mechanical Quantity Surveyor Location: Oxfordshire Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent Salary: £60,000 – £90,000 (varying levels of experience will be considered) About the Company Our client is a well-established M&E construction contractor with a long-standing reputation for delivering high-quality projects across the pharmaceutical, semiconductor, industrial, food, commercial, and retail sectors. The business manages complex engineering and construction works for major international corporations and places a strong emphasis on technical excellence, safety, and staff development. The Role We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Quantity Surveyor to oversee the commercial and contractual aspects of mechanical engineering works on large-scale construction projects. The successful candidate will ensure effective cost planning, budgeting, procurement, and financial control across all mechanical elements, including HVAC, piping, fire protection systems, and plumbing. Key Responsibilities Cost Estimation & Budgeting Prepare detailed mechanical cost estimates based on design documentation and site conditions. Develop and manage project budgets, identifying cost variances and implementing corrective actions. Procurement & Tendering Prepare Bills of Quantities (BOQs) and tender documentation for mechanical works. Evaluate subcontractor and supplier bids and provide recommendations for contract awards. Contract Management Administer contracts under JCT D&B or equivalent standard forms. Manage variations, claims, and dispute resolution processes related to mechanical works. Cost Control & Reporting Track and report project costs against approved budgets. Conduct value engineering and cost-saving reviews during project execution. Measurement & Valuation Perform on-site measurements and re-measurements for mechanical components. Validate and certify subcontractor and supplier payment applications. Collaboration & Coordination Work closely with design, procurement, and construction teams to ensure alignment on mechanical scope. Attend site meetings and liaise with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders. Requirements Degree qualification in Quantity Surveying, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline. Proven experience in mechanical quantity surveying within building services or construction projects. Strong knowledge of mechanical systems (HVAC, piping, fire protection, plumbing). Familiarity with JCT or similar contract forms. Excellent analytical, communication, and negotiation skills. Benefits Competitive salary and long-term career opportunities.
