Job Description

Cardiff Council is seeking an experienced Assistant Solicitor (Procurement) Locum to join our Governance and Legal Services – Procurement team on a temporary contract, with a strong possibility of extension. As Assistant Solicitor (Procurement), you will provide high-quality legal advice and support on procurement, contracts, and general local government law matters. You will play a key role in advising on the Procurement Act, Public Contracts Regulations, and governance and decision-making within local government — ensuring our services continue to operate within a robust legal framework. Location: Remote (hybrid working supported; occasional attendance at council sites may be required) Contract: Temporary (initially 3 months, potential to extend) ⏰ Hours: 37 hours per week Directorate: Governance and Legal Services – Procurement Pay Rate: £55.76 per hour (via Umbrella) Essential Requirements: * Qualified Solicitor (holding a current practising certificate) or Barrister with equivalent qualification. * Proven experience and knowledge of procurement law, including the Procurement Act and Public Contracts Regulations. * Demonstrable experience in drafting and amending contracts, including standard forms. * Knowledge and experience of local government law, including governance and decision-making processes. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to provide clear and practical legal advice. * Strong IT skills (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, online legal research tools, and legal case management systems). * Ability to use DocuSign (or equivalent) for completion of contracts. * Able to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines
