Highways Design Engineer - Local Authority Projects South East England | Hybrid (2 days/week in office) ️ Start: 5 Jan 2026 | Duration: 12 Months £30-£40/hr (DOE) | Outside IR35 37 hours/week | Full UK Working Rights DBS Required Are you a seasoned Highways Design Engineer with a strong track record in local council authority schemes? Ready to shape infrastructure that makes a real impact? We're hiring on behalf of a respected client in the South East for a design-led role that blends technical expertise with stakeholder collaboration. What You'll Be Doing: Designing highway schemes from concept to detailed design Preparing contract documents and supporting construction phases Planning and programming small-scale schemes Estimating and managing project costs and consultant fees Ensuring Health & Safety and sustainability are built into every solution Liaising with developers, planners, and consultants on Section 38 & 278 agreements Reviewing and checking detailed submissions for compliance and adoptability What You'll Bring: RQF Level 4-6 in Civil Engineering (or equivalent) Proven experience in highways, infrastructure, and civil engineering design Strong knowledge of relevant specs, policies, and procedures Proficiency in CAD tools (Civil 3D, MX, AutoCAD) A proactive mindset and collaborative approach This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to meaningful public infrastructure projects while enjoying the flexibility of a hybrid setup.
