Primary objective The Communications and Media Manager provides high-level advice and support to executive and senior managers of the Department of Education and Training to facilitate effective media and communication processes and engagement with external stakeholders primarily for the Central Australia and Barkly regions. Context statement The role supports the Better, Safer Future for Central Australia Plan: On Country Learning through the development and management of stakeholder meetings, drafting high-level documents such as memorandums, departmental correspondence and agendas, as well as speech notes and communications collateral with an eye for quality and style requirements. The position also supports communications projects within the Communications and Media team and reports to the Director of Communications and Media. Key duties and responsibilities 1. Provide strategic advice on communication approaches and manage delivery of the department’s proactive and reactive media liaison requirements. 2. Identify, plan, create and implement a range of communications and engagement activities, including planning and logistics, resource allocation and consideration of media, political and stakeholder implications consistent with the objectives, strategic directions and priorities of the department and government. 3. Develops, organises, and facilitates documents for external stakeholder meetings, provides responses to queries and facilitates the development of appropriate actions. 4. Establish strong working relationships with stakeholders, including industry and agency experts, to build understanding of agency initiatives, issues and sensitivities; and be responsive to stakeholder needs and expectations. 5. Ensure programs meet and adhere to Northern Territory Government branding, digital, communication and procurement policies and guidelines. Selection criteria Essential 1. Proven experience in communications and marketing project coordination/management and evaluation, including political and stakeholder implications with effective and timely outcomes. 2. Excellent writing skills with experience in preparing media briefs, media releases, editorial for a range of publications and speech notes. 3. Proven experience providing advice on communication policies and guidelines in accordance with relevant legislation, frameworks, and branding guidelines. 4. Practical, contemporary knowledge of the broader strategic communication and marketing industry, including publications, media management, exhibitions, creative graphic design concepts, electronic, social and digital platforms and networks, promotions, advertising management, market research and events or product launches. 5. Demonstrated experience managing multiple, and sometimes conflicting, workloads, while maintaining attention to detail. 6. Preparedness to work flexible hours, including weekends and after hours. 7. Extensive knowledge of processes for the development and dissemination of communication strategies and messages within a public sector context. Desirable 1.
