Job Description

The Role This is a new role that offers a unique and exciting opportunity to shape the future of financial management across the Collins Submarine and Nuclear Submarine (SSN) Sustainment Programs. As an APS 6, you will have a considerable level of stakeholder engagement skills to be able to coordinate and advise on complex financial, price and cost management issues. You will lead and coordinate monthly governance and stakeholder meetings, taking ownership of secretariat responsibilities including agenda preparation, minute-taking, and administrative support to ensure effective and well-documented outcomes. This role is ideal for a proactive, detailed oriented and analytical professional who thrives in dynamic environments and is passionate about driving meaningful outcomes to support Defence capability. In this dynamic role, you will provide high-level budgetary, financial, pricing, and cost analysis to support informed decision-making across complex and high-impact work areas. You will deliver expert forecasting and offer professional and policy advice, contributing meaningfully to strategic planning, program and project management, and policy development. Your insights will help shape financial outcomes and drive continuous improvement across key initiatives. Key Activities: Perform the role of Secretariat for the Collins Submarine (CN10) and SSN Financial Control Boards. Provide expert financial, pricing, and cost analysis to support program budgets, including assessing the impact of current and future procurement activities on financial forecasts. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure financial requirements are understood and met, support governance processes through alignment of budgets, commitments, and expenditure, and conduct detailed budget analysis to identify risks and opportunities, advising on the financial impact of contracts and developing treatment options. Build and maintain strong working relationships with supervisors, team members, and key stakeholders, contributing to a collaborative and high-performing team environment. Act as a critical member of the team by supporting a range of administrative functions, demonstrating high attention to detail, and undertaking ad hoc tasks and responsibilities as directed by senior team members to ensure smooth and efficient operations, while effectively managing competing priorities and meeting deadlines. About our Team The Commercial teams for both Collins and SSN are part of the Submarines Division under Naval Shipbuilding and Sustainment Group (NSSG). Submarines Division exists to deliver an enduring, potent and agile submarine capability vital to Australia’s national security. The Submarine capability we deliver includes the submarines themselves, their support systems and the associated sovereign industrial base. Our contribution to delivery of submarine capability spans: Submarine sustainment - including Collins and SSN sustainment, life-of-type extension, and nuclear-powered submarine sustainment. Selected capability enhancements, submarine combat systems and spiral development of MK48 weight torpedo and, Submarine rescue and intervention. Budget Management and Forecasting. Our Ideal Candidate Our ideal candidate will provide high-level financial, pricing, and cost analysis to support program budgets, procurement activities, and contract financial forecasting. The candidate will require a number of key skills including: An ability to develop an understanding and apply Commonwealth and Defence financial Management rules, legislative and mandatory policy compliance obligations. Be a critical thinker, skilled listener and effective communicator. Demonstrate strong analytical acumen and sound judgement, with the ability to interpret complex financial data, provide strategic insights, and support decision-making in a high-stakes, fast-paced environment. Ability to lead, manage, and coordinate meetings, and confidently administer secretariat duties such as preparing agendas, recording minutes, and supporting effective governance. Able to work autonomously as well as in a collaborative team environment to achieve shared objectives. Being confident and professional when engaging with all stakeholders.
