Role: A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Legal Counsel to join the Commercial and Legal team at RJE. You will play a pivotal role in supporting RJE’s construction and renewables projects by providing practical and commercially focused legal advice across all stages of project delivery — from tender and contract negotiation through to completion. This role is ideal for a proactive and adaptable lawyer who thrives in a fast-paced project environment. You will work closely with RJE’s project management, engineering, and procurement teams, as well as senior management, to manage legal and contractual risk across the company’s growing portfolio of renewable energy and infrastructure projects. Key responsibilities Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of customer, supplier, and subcontractor agreements for construction and renewable energy projects (including EPC, design and construct, and supply contracts). Provide strategic legal advice on project delivery issues, contract interpretation, risk allocation, and dispute avoidance. Advise on claims, variations, extensions of time, and other project-related contractual matters. Work collaboratively with commercial, engineering, and procurement teams to ensure project compliance with contractual and regulatory obligations. Support the development and continuous improvement of contract templates and contracting procedures tailored for renewables projects. Identify and manage legal risks, ensuring alignment with RJE’s corporate governance and risk frameworks. Liaise with external legal counsel where necessary and manage external advice efficiently. Monitor and advise on legislative and regulatory developments affecting the construction and renewable energy sectors, including safety, environment, and energy market compliance. Provide internal training and guidance to project and commercial teams on key legal and contractual principles. Skills & experience 3 years’ post-admission experience as a lawyer, ideally gained in the construction, infrastructure, or renewable energy industries (in-house or private practice). Strong understanding of construction and contract law, particularly in the context of EPC and D&C contracting models. Experience advising on renewables or energy transition projects such as wind, battery storage, or transmission infrastructure. Proven ability to draft and negotiate complex contracts and provide clear, solution-oriented legal advice. Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work closely with multidisciplinary project teams. Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and current practising certificate (or eligibility to obtain one). Employment Benefits: We offer a collaborative team environment both within and outside of the workplace.
