Job Description
You will join the DWP (Department for Work and Pensions) Enterprise Tooling Team, responsible for managing and maintaining a range of enterprise products that monitor and report on the performance of the Departments IT systems. As a Senior Infrastructure Engineer-Flexera Lead: You'll be responsible for the design, delivery and on-boarding of new services to our existing FNMS installation to enhance the visibility and performance of the Departments systems. You will also be responsible for ensuring the operational stability of our solutions and to improve the on-going robustness and resilience of this product. You will have responsibility for maintenance and ownership of the Flexera FlexNet Management Suiteand underlying infrastructure as well as being responsible for Stakeholder Management. You will have staff management responsibilities and lead the team, working closely with other Enterprise Tooling teams, Live Service engineers and application owners to ensure the systems and services, which monitor and manage the DWP estate, are operational, performant and that key application metrics are produced accurately. You will be joining a team of IT Engineers that are committed to designing, developing, deploying and supporting core IT services that underpin the DWPs citizen facing systems. These services provide the monitoring necessary to know how healthy the underlying infrastructure or application is and that core IT services are operating in a performant manner. You will be expected to be responsible for ensuring best practices are adhered to across the Department and guiding teams on how to deliver quality products. Your role will maintain responsibility for all engineering elements within your product set; the focus will be on design and implementation but also provide subject matter expertise to ensure that our tooling portfolio is running optimally. In this role, youll ensure our team work to ITIL standards across Incident, Problem and Change management as you design and maintain the Portfolio of Enterprise Tools within our domain to provide a robust and modern enterprise strength capability. You will be the escalation point for any live service issues related to your toolsets and provide supportand assistance to junior staff and users. You'll have a solid understanding of IT infrastructure concepts, enabling you to work effectively with internal and external partners, stakeholders, and customers. You will have experience in the Tooling Portfolio that we operate, specifically the installation and support of the Flexera FlexNet Manager Suite is essential. Your experience should include working experience of rolling out the Flexera One agent across a variety of operating systems and cloud services including Kubernetes within AKS and EKS environments. You will be familiar with Infrastructure as code deployments and of working with both Windows Server and various distributions of Linux. We operate a variety of systems including Windows Server and various flavours of UNIX. You will be confident remotely accessing servers via Remote Desktop Services and SSH. Our Tooling Portfolio monitors and analyses our Hybrid hosting estate which is heavily leaning toward a substantial Public Cloud footprint. Therefore, we are looking for applicants with engineering skills and confidence to deploy and support cloud instance elements both via the console or using Infrastructure as Code techniques. As we move towards more solutions based on containerisation technologies you will also be expected to have, and be able to demonstrate, a good understanding of this. Person specification When giving details in your employment history and personal statement you should highlight your experience in line withessential criteriabelow: Evidence a strong track record in designing and delivering infrastructure services and solutions, working within a hybrid server estate including multiple Operating Systems such as Microsoft Windows Server, multiple Unix or Linux distributions and containerised platforms, to meet strategic plans and roadmaps. Demonstrate significant experience in providing specialist technical support and assistance to projects ensuring definition and delivery of requisite non-functional requirements to architectural and roadmap developments. Exhibit significant experience managing, supporting and mentoring the development of team members to successfully deliver high quality outcomes that meet the customers needs and provides value for money. Be able to show significant demonstrable experience of using multiple scripting languages across different operating systems including the deployment of Infrastructure as Code. Demonstrate significant experience of effectively communicating at different levels, across support and engineering, business users, architecture and suppliers. Proven significant experience of designing, implementing and managing a Flexera on-premise installation including agent rollout and integrations with multiple technologies including Kubernetes deployment in AKS and EKS. Hybrid Working This role may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in their DWP office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and your office will be your contractual place of work. Salary Information Pay for this role is from 57,946 to 68,517. The maximum salary for the grade is 68,205, however a Digital Allowance of up to 312 per annum is available for exceptional candidates. Digital Allowance is non-salary, and non-pensionable, and is classed as a temporary allowance. It is reviewed annually where it could be retained, amended, or removed. Our offer to successful candidates will be based on an assessment of your skills and experience as demonstrated at interview. Existing Civil Servants who secure a new role on lateral transfer will maintain their current salary. Existing Civil Servants who gain promotion will either move to the bottom of the grade pay scale or get a 10% increase to their current salary whichever would be the greater.
