Job Description

The key duties of the position include: The Role DDG Engineering is seeking a highly skilled Solutions Architect / Solutions Engineering Lead with expertise in multi-cloud and/or on-premises solutions, team leadership, and outcome-driven delivery. This role is critical to ensuring secure and scalable solutions that support future ICT transformation across hybrid environments. We have three core priorities: Building best-in-class people to support DDG’s mission, Leveraging best-in-class global platforms, Strengthening best-in-class sovereign capabilities. Our goal is to equip warfighters with the technologies and connectivity required to fight and win in the digital age. This role is pivotal and will be embedded within larger project teams to drive the development of new solutions and deliver key capabilities. It sits within the Digital Engineering Branch, where a high degree of autonomy will be provided including the responsibility to recruit, lead, and mentor junior team members. This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Collective Agreement (DECA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. About our Team You will be part of a team of ICT professionals delivering complex projects across key Digital domains in both the Military and Enterprise Systems Divisions within Defence Digital Group (DDG). In this role you will be a leader, provide technical expertise and mentorship to junior team members in a matrixed construct, as teams and individuals embedded into projects as needed. As a Digital Engineer in DDG you may either: Lead a team of ICT professionals experienced in key technology platforms/products, or Work individually on projects as the technical engineering SME. Our Ideal Candidate You will have the following skills, experience and exposure: Extensive experience in designing, deploying, and managing large-scale enterprise ICT solutions tailored to complex business environments. Your background includes ERP, Finance, Payroll, Warehouse Management Systems, secure environments, SaaS, PaaS, and on-premises infrastructures, as well as AI and data-intensive systems. You specialize in hybrid and multi-cloud networks and multi-technology integration architectures. Deep knowledge of ICT solutions architecture, software engineering, and systems integration, enabling you to deliver customized, scalable, and secure applications that meet specific operational needs. You translate business requirements into technical solutions, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture standards and security frameworks such as the ISM, Essential Eight (E8), and other technical assurance protocols. Demonstrated proficiency in architecting and implementing cloud-native and hybrid cloud solutions across major platforms, including Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Google Cloud Platform (GCP). In-depth knowledge of industry-standard architecture frameworks such as DoDAF (Department of Defense Architecture Framework), TOGAF (The Open Group Architecture Framework), and NAF (NATO Architecture Framework). You have hands-on experience in solutions architecture documentation, conducting architecture evaluations, and implementing governance practices to ensure alignment with enterprise standards and strategic objectives. Your ability to apply these frameworks enables you to design and assess complex ICT solutions with a focus on interoperability, scalability, and compliance. You contribute to architecture governance by maintaining traceability, ensuring stakeholder alignment, and supporting decision-making through structured documentation and analysis. Proven leadership in mentoring ICT professionals, collaborating across cross-functional teams, and fostering a high-performance culture. Your work ethic promotes continuous improvement and professional growth within your team.
