Iciq Severo Ochoa Predoctoral Fellowships – 2Nd Call 2025 1 day ago Be among the first 25 applicants Overview ICIQ SEVERO OCHOA PREDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS FOR RESEARCHERS TRAINING are aimed at exceptional graduate students from all over the world. These PhD studentships support enrolment in a training and research programme in chemistry, ultimately leading to a PhD in Chemistry in partnership with the Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV). The PhD will be linked to the project CEX‑xxxx‑S, funded by the Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades / Agencia Estatal de Investigación (MICIU/AEI) under the Severo Ochoa call for proposals. Fellows receive comprehensive training to prepare for a professional career in academia or industry. Objectives and Activities This objective is achieved by the following activities. The research project aligns with one of the ICIQ‑Severo Ochoa Strategic Plan lines: Innovative Catalysis, Renewable Energy Vectors, or Molecular Medicine. Each thesis is supervised by two ICIQ Group Leaders (supervisor and co‑supervisor) to provide multidisciplinary mentorship. Complementary training in technical and soft skills is provided. The educational framework includes seminars, hands‑on training with state‑of‑the‑art instrumentation, IP management, entrepreneurship, research integrity, knowledge transfer, grant applications, project management, communication skills, and career development. ICIQ provides a personalised annual training programme called SHARP (Severo Ochoa PhD Training Programme), which lasts two weeks and focuses on the fellow’s specific PhD year. Opportunities for short‑term placements in distinguished international research institutions. Eligibility and Application Process Candidates should have an excellent academic record, a strong commitment to research, and a solid working knowledge of English. Available positions: See Annex. Only one application per person is considered; if multiple are submitted, only the first is taken into account. Required documents (all in PDF): Full Curriculum Vitae (max 2 DIN A4 pages) Personal statement (max 2 DIN A4 pages) describing academic background, research experience, career goals, and alignment with ICIQ and the fellowships. Official transcripts of BSc and MSc studies. Certified academic record of BSc and MSc (must be completed by the time the fellowship starts). Contact details for letters of recommendation from two university professors or other relevant individuals. English proficiency evidence (e.g., B2 certificate, Cambridge First Certificate, IELTS 6 or equivalent). This certificate is not mandatory but desirable; alternatively, late‑stage candidates will be interviewed to assess English level. Applicants from the Anglosphere are exempt from the English proficiency requirement. Applications must include all information before the deadline. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Eligibility Criteria Candidates must have a Master or equivalent degree in Chemistry, Physics, Chemical Engineering, Pharmacy or related disciplines, completed by October , allowing admission to a Spanish PhD programme by the time the fellowship starts. Individuals who already hold a PhD or have previously benefited from a predoctoral training fellowship under the State Research, Development and Innovation Plan are not eligible. Evaluation Criteria Evaluation is based on a points system with a threshold of 65 points. Criteria include: Academic and Scientific‑Technical Career Path (up to 50 points) Scientific‑technical contributions (up to 45 points). Mobility and internationalisation (up to 5 points). Suitability for the Proposed Research Activities (up to 50 points) – assessed based on prior training and experience, added value to research career, and contribution to the host institution. Selection Process The process follows the principles of the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA). Submitted applications are checked for eligibility; unsuitable ones are rejected. No application can be modified after the deadline. Short‑listed candidates are contacted for a personal interview. Final decisions are communicated by early February . Successful candidates must accept or decline the offer within five business days of notification; otherwise the offer is considered declined. Fellowship Conditions Fellowship includes salary, enrolment fees to a PhD programme (up to 4 years), and funding for short stays abroad. Contracts are renewed annually for up to 4 years, contingent on satisfactory performance. Gross yearly salary: First year €19,xxxx; second, third and fourth years €24,xxxx. Salary is paid monthly (12 payments). The total duration of doctoral and postdoctoral periods cannot exceed 48 months. Full social security coverage, public health care, pension and unemployment benefits are provided. Fellows must work full‑time at ICIQ and may not receive other fellowship funding with the same purpose or regular income. Monitoring and Reporting Predoctoral researchers must report to the Agencia Estatal de Investigación on activities carried out and fulfilment of the training programme. Two reports are required: an interim report at 20 months and a final report covering the full duration.
