Applications are invited from suitably qualified & experienced candidates to fill the Component Engineer position in the Component Engineering Department - Product Development (Kariega) Brief Role Description To ensure the OEM products are engineered to market requirements by designing, developing, testing and introducing locally manufactured components, by adapting and developing the OEM sourced designs to be compatible with the OEM responsible markets environmental conditions and by issuing technical data in line with the correct component engineering level to meet the following criteria: the OEM products are built problem free Regional requirements in terms of local content and technical support are met Innovative and unique product feature development Safety and reliability in service Technical support for discontinued models (and still required in Africa) Technical development that adheres to the required Product Emergence Process (PEP) manual Possible Tasks within this Role Apply sound knowledge of vehicle component systems such as the drivetrain, exhaust system, fuel system, air conditioning system, cooling system, etc. Prepare, issue and maintain technical data for Chassis, Powertrain and automotive Heating-Ventilation-Air-conditioning (HVAC) components and systems. Support Production, Logistics, Warranty and Quality and assist with special investigations. Specify, test and release Chassis/Powertrain/HVAC components and systems to ensure adherence to internal and external requirements. Create and track development and release timing plans; prepare development and release reports. Evaluation and implementation of design changes and material cost saving ideas. Support of suppliers throughout the development and localization phases. Communication and cooperation with relevant Group counterparts (Europe and South America) for projects. Application of root cause analysis tools, implementation of corrective actions and introduction of preventative measures. Qualification requirements National Diploma/Btech/BSc/ BEng in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering Experience needed Minimum 3 years relative experience in the automotive or a similar engineering field Essentials Knowledge of modern Chassis/Powertrain/HVAC vehicle components and systems. Knowledge of modern automotive production methods. Knowledge of project management principles. Understanding of basic financial principles. Self-motivation, good time management, report writing and presentation ability. The ability to conduct Technical Presentations. The ability to work and communicate effectively with people at all levels. MS Office computer literacy.Code 08 Drivers Licence.
