Health & Safety Manager

Overview Lead a proactive safety culture across a growing M&E contractor. We’re working with a well-established mechanical and electrical services provider in Wigan to recruit a full-time, permanent Health & Safety Manager. This is a hands-on leadership role that will suit someone with strong technical knowledge, excellent communication skills, and the confidence to embed safe working practices across live projects. What You’ll Be Doing * Leading the development of RAMS, WPPs, COSHH assessments, toolbox talks, and other documentation * Carrying out planned and reactive site audits across multiple projects * Driving behavioural safety and coaching site teams on best practice * Ensuring full compliance with CDM 2015, Building Safety Act 2022, and internal processes * Leading accident investigations and preparing root cause analysis reports * Managing training records and coordinating external courses * Verifying subcontractor compliance, documentation, and site conduct * Producing monthly safety reports and recommending process improvements Skills & Experience Required Essential: * NEBOSH General Certificate (minimum) * Experience within M&E, building services or general construction * Sound knowledge of CDM 2015 and BSA 2022 * Strong auditing and incident investigation experience * Confident communicator with the ability to coach and lead * Competent writing RAMS, WPPs, COSHH assessments * Full UK driving licence Desirable: * NEBOSH Construction Certificate or higher * TechIOSH / GradIOSH (or working towards CMIOSH) * Fire safety knowledge (compartmentation, inspections, IFE certs) * Familiarity with systems like SharePoint, ACC, Fieldview, or PowerBI Benefits * Salary: £50,000 – £60,000 depending on experience * Permanent position with a growing M&E contractor * Strategic role with autonomy and impact * Ongoing CPD and professional development support * Positive, down-to-earth company culture
