Position Tenure-Track Clinical Associate Professor / Clinical Assistant Professor in Periodontology Appointment Details Applications are invited for appointment as Tenure-Track Clinical Associate Professor/Clinical Assistant Professor in Periodontology of the Faculty of Dentistry (Ref.: 533372), to commence as soon as possible, on a four-year fixed‑term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second four‑year fixed‑term contract. Exceptionally outstanding candidates at Associate Professor level may be considered for appointment on tenure terms subject to approval. Faculty Overview The Faculty of Dentistry is the only dental school in Hong Kong and the only one in Greater China that uses English as the medium of instruction. The high quality of the Faculty’s undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, research excellence and clinical/professional services have attained global recognition, as evidenced by the Faculty’s global rankings among the top three by the QS World University Rankings by Subject for nine out of the past eleven years (2015‑2025). The Faculty’s strategic research themes include Clinical Artificial Intelligence, Craniofacial Regeneration, Microbiome Innovation, Oral Cancer, and Population Oral Health. The Faculty also plays an important role in public and professional education through its knowledge exchange (KE) activities as well as in oral health research and promotions in international, regional and local communities. Key Responsibilities Applicants should demonstrate excellence in clinical care, research and teaching in the field of Implant Dentistry on top of sound knowledge and training in Periodontology. They are expected to work collaboratively in a dynamic and diverse environment, develop a competitive research portfolio, and contribute to the curricula available at the undergraduate and postgraduate level. Ability to partake undergraduate periodontology teaching / education and fluency in spoken and written English are essential. The appointee will engage in the clinical and didactic teaching in Periodontology at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, supervise research projects, be expected to develop their own line of research, and participate in the clinical and administrative duties of the Faculty. Qualification Requirements – Clinical Associate Professor Dental Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, clinical specialist in Periodontology or equivalent status with proficiency in Implant Dentistry, a Ph.D. degree or equivalent, and an excellent track record in research. Proven ability for quality research, publications in high quality international journals, and evidence of local and regional recognition for scholarship and professional expertise. Demonstrated ability in undergraduate and postgraduate education, clinical practice and research. Demonstrated clinical expertise. Demonstrated participation in Faculty and University affairs. Demonstrated ability in KE activities, and leadership in professional education programmes or community engagement. Qualification Requirements – Clinical Assistant Professor Dental Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, and a Master of Dental Surgery degree or equivalent in Periodontology with good clinical experiences in Implant Dentistry. Ability in undergraduate and postgraduate clinical teaching and practice. Potential for and interest in research. Proven ability in clinical excellence. Ability and willingness to participate in Faculty affairs. Participation in KE activities. Publications in international peer‑reviewed journals are an advantage. Salary and Benefits A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15 % of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract‑end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15 % of basic salary.
